SuperEgo: The Life & Times Of...

May 23, 2011 — So, I had this Friday off. I chose to take another shot at the easy road to fame and fortune. This day, the setting was early morning in Downtown Los Angeles; L.A. LIVE to be specific.
The location was the The Conga Room, a local hotspot. 102.7 KIIS FM hosted a singing competition, judged by former “Idol” runner-up, Kimberly Locke. I made it to the second round and lost, but I had fun doing it. Plus, I ended up getting free coffee at Starbucks.
This is the picture I took right after I made it past round one.

“Hit Me With The Seven Digits.”

Found an old notebook from freshman year of high school, circa 2001. Inside of it I found a brainstorming exercise which asked about my favorite music. This is what was mentioned: Nobody’s Angel, Hanson, E.Y.C., B*Witched, Smashmouth, Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Sisqo, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Enrique Iglesias, No Authority and Eminem. Oh, and Lauryn Hill.

I also found a mix CD in the same box. It was called “DJ Luke’s Summer Playlist 2001.” Here was the playlist (click a song to hear it):

1. Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff - Summertime

2. BBMak - Back Here

3. Evan and Jaron - Crazy For This Girl

4. Britney Spears - Lucky

5. NSYNC - Digital Get Down

6. Nickelback - How You Remind Me

7. Lifehouse - Hanging By A Moment

8. Eve 6 - Here’s To The Night

9. Mandy Moore - Candy

10. Shaggy - It Wasn’t Me

11. 2Pac - Until The End Of Time

12. Staind - It’s Been Awhile

13. System of A Down - Chop Suey

Sony Pictures back lot, Culver City, CA. July 29th, 2011.

“When I’m Grown.”

I started humming the tune to this out of the blue today. I couldn’t remember what it was at first, and why such a distant memory was triggered. I just knew it had something to do with a really cute girl. After about an hour searching through my Disney folder in iTunes, I found it.

I used to rewind this sequence over and over as a kid. I just liked her voice, and the little face wiggle she gives Mowgli. Seeing it as an adult, now I understand how she got him to leave “The Jungle” behind. :)

“WITNESS.”

No man’s journey is complete without at least one witness.
Be grateful for good friends.

In my opinion, some of the best ideas I’ve ever heard are from people who didn’t think they were saying anything remotely profound. When considering quotes that seem genuine and honest, a true visionary has no filter; it only matters what plagues the mind in times of most dire uncertainty that we can know our true selfs, if only for a millisecond.
